Monday-Monoprix et la poste
After classes on Monday, Michelle and I ventured into town and went to the post office and Monoprix (like a Super Target). After waiting in a slow moving line I bought some stamps at the post office. Monoprix was pretty busy and a little overwhelming since we had no idea where anything was! I want to go back and just wander around….maybe this weekend! I finally found what I was looking for-a cheap cup to use in my room and some kleenex! I also bought a few snacks…it’s hard to wait until 7 to eat dinner! I’m getting better at it but if lunch isn’t very good, I need a snack in the afternoon! My total came to 6.23 euros so I gave the cashier 6.50 euros. She accidentally typed in 65 euros! She realized she made a mistake but was so confused as to how much change she needed to give…needless to say it wasn’t a hard calculation but she was very flustered but eventually figured out she owed me .27 euros.
Tuesday-Geko
Tuesday wasn’t very eventfull…the most exciting thing was a geko in our grammar class room…there are quite a few gekos here but you normally see them at night under the lights. It was a nice day so I did some reading on the beach in the afternoon…and took a nap as well J Also, I went for a run with a friend who runs slow like me so that was fun…we’ve been running everyday this week and hope to continue running a couple times a week for the rest of the semester!
Wednesday-I’m a one eggy twin!!
So I think I had the most hilarious dinner conversation ever on Wednesday. The tables in the dining hall seat six. It was me, Maisha (my roommate), Michelle, Sabine (her roommate) and two other girls. So the four of us hang out together a lot. The other two left to go to a movie. I can’t remember who said it but someone said…”oh it’s the happy family again”! We all cracked up! We proceed to decide that Maisha is the “dad” (her room is always messy), Sabine is the “mom” (she always makes her bed and cleans up her stuff) and Michelle and I would be the kids. So Sabine wanted us to be twins but we would have to be two eggy twins since we don’t look alike at all. Michelle and I were confused! What are two eggy twins?!?!?! But Maisha completely understood! I guess in Holland and Switzerland identical twins are called one eggy twins and fraternal twins are two eggy twins!! It was hilarious!!!!! (Kind of one of those things that you had to be there to understand).
I wrote an essay for senior seminar (which took me WAY too long to write) and studied a bunch for my French test! I went to the library here for the first time and it is a great place to study! It was nice and warm and there were big tables to spread out all your stuff on! Just like Clemens or Alcuin! I love to spread out all my stuff when I’m studying for a test!
Thursday-First Test!!!!!!
Test day! I felt pretty good about the information but really didn’t know what to expect! How would a test in France be compared to the United States? Well, it turns out it isn’t much different but we didn’t have any work banks or multiple choice…all from memory. We had until the break to take the test…I used all the time like normal! I thought it went ok but I wasn’t sure some questions but I did my best and decided not to worry much since it was only the first test of the semester and if I did poorly I would just have to work harder for the next one.
In senior seminar, we got a sheet with the times and dates of the classes we will start taking September 24th or 25th…we are going to be BUSY!!!!!!!! This is what my schedule will look like starting September 24th! The only thing that might change is grammar…we might only have it two hours a day instead of three but our instructor didn’t know for sure yet. Right now I have grammar and senior seminar which keeps me plenty busy!
*I couldn't figure out how to put a table in my blog so I just took a picture of the schedule I made on excel
Friday (Today)- :)
Today was great!! I got my test back in my grammar class and I got 19/20-excellent travail!!! The French grading system doesn’t use A-F like we do but they give a #/20. So there was actually 94 points on the test but 19/20 is my “grade” on the test. I was very happy! Also, we took a field trip in grammar this morning. After the 15 minutes coffee/smoke break, we went to the market in Cannes. It is a really nice 20ish minute walk the market. There were some CRAZY things there-eels, barracuda, a pig head, donkey sausage….it was really neat and I want to go back some day when I have more time.
After lunch I watched “Sophie’s Choice” for my senior seminar homework-we are going to discuss it on Monday. We had pizza for dinner…it was very different from American pizza but it was good! I had two different kinds…one had red sauce and veggies (really good!) and the other had sauce and big slices goat cheese I think…it was pretty good but not great. After dinner we played the most hilarious game of volley ball ever!!!! It started out with 5 people on a team but by the end there were 8 people on a team. There was no score keeping, lots of franglais, balls going in every direction, balls being kicked instead of hit, balls hitting people in the head, and tons of LAUGHING!! It was great!!! It did pretty good at serving but I have a lot of work to do on the rest of the game! Needless to say, my hands/arms are sore! But it was worth it!
Oh! So when I came back from lunch/class today, I went to fill up my water bottle and started to freak out because my bottom retainer wasn’t in the case and I know it was there when I went to class. Our rooms are cleaned everyday and I noticed my cup and retainer case were moved around…the maid must have cleaned the counter! Did my retainer fall into the trash?!? There was a new bag so if that was the case I would never get it back! So I was frantically looking for it and my roommate spotted it behind the sink on the floor!! I was so relieved but really grossed out by it being on the floor! I’ll have to get something at monoprix this weekend to clean it off before using it again!
