Sadly there was no public transportation of any form after 6 pm Christmas Eve and none on Christmas Day either. This meant we were unable to go into town and go to the Chaplaincy for mass and instead had to go across the street to St. Anthony’s. It is really convenient but there are a lot of things we don’t like about it, one being the music as I have mentioned before. When there are no other options, it will do.
We had a very untraditional dinner of mac and cheese on Christmas Eve. Since all three of our families have different traditions for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day we did a little bit of everyone’s. My family opens gifts on Christmas Eve so Abby and Melissa opened the gifts I gave them and I opened the presents from my family. On Christmas Day the rest of the gifts were opened since that is when Abby and Melissa’s families open gifts.
We then went to the brothers and sisters house for Christmas dinner. The dinner started out with an interesting appetizer that consisted of half an avocado scooped out and put back in mixed with prawns and a sauce. It was pretty tasty even though I normally don’t like prawns. The main meal was turkey, mini sausages wrapped in bacon, cooked carrots, mashed potatoes, parsnips and brussel sprouts. It was all very tasty. The Christmas pudding is a fruit cake type dessert that is heated up in the oven, some alcohol is poured on top and then it is lit on fire…or in our case it just smoked instead of actually lighting on fire. To go with the Christmas pudding there was brandy cream, brandy sauce and some other form of dairy mixed with brandy…haha. I wasn’t a big fan but the English really like it! When our meal was done we watched the Queen’s message on the TV at 3pm. It was about a 10 minute message from the Queen and it started out with the song “God Save the Queen” playing which made me giggle because it is the same tune as “My Country Tis of Thee”.
Also, a fun part of the dinner was the Christmas Crackers. It was fun seeing everyone wearing paper hats! We finished the evening back at our flat by attempting to watch the Santa Claus on the VCR I got for our apartment but it didn’t work! (I brought it back to the shop and after a fuse was replaced it works great)

I got to talk to everyone at Gram Super's house for Christmas so that was great! I was also surprised with a call from Grandma and Grandpa Buggy, Uncle Tim and Declan since Uncle Tim was helping them get Skype set up! I'm so glad I got to talk to everyone on Christmas!!
